I've been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. I'm enjoying the campaign, and in it, during the [ Operation Chaos ] mission, you can decrypt a floppy disk — the structure is that you have to crack the cipher to figure out the passcode and decrypt it. This time I'll write about how to figure out the Cold War floppy disk passcode.
Call of Duty: Cold War Floppy Disk Decryption Guide
When decrypting the floppy disk passcode in CoD Cold War, you have to enter two answers. One is a 4-digit number password + a city name. At first I figured out the number password but kept getting it wrong because I didn't know the coded part, so let me walk through how to do it.
What You Need
To decrypt the Cold War floppy disk passcode, you have to find all 3 pieces of evidence in the mission. That's because the passcodes are different for each player. In other words, even if you enter my password of 5389, there's a high chance it'll be wrong. So to solve this passcode, you have to obtain all the evidence within the campaign.
You can find the evidence locations without too much trouble, even without looking carefully.
Finding the Number Password
The number password can be found in the Newspaper. If you're playing the Korean version, when you examine the Newspaper evidence, you'll see a random city name appear in red text in the photo area. In my case, "Newark" appeared.
Now you just need to check the 4-digit number that corresponds to Newark. The numbers can be found in the third piece of evidence, the "Numbers Station Broadcast" tape. The Numbers Station Broadcast evidence lists 10 random cities with random 4-digit numbers, and here you can confirm that the number for the "Newark" city found in the Newspaper (note: this differs per player) is 5389.
First code found: 5389
Finding the Coded Message
Next is finding the coded message. Once you understand it, it's a clue with an easy rule. You can find it in the second piece of evidence, the "Coded Message". At first there were puzzling symbols, so I thought I had to solve it using the symbols, but they don't seem very relevant.
Here the symbols don't matter — just look at the numbers. They're split into red numbers and blue numbers, and the rule is that the numbers increase by a set amount. This rule, the numbers, and even the position of the ? differ for each player. But it's really easy, so you'll be able to solve it without trouble.
Red numbers : 87 > ? > 90 > 93 > 97
In the numbers above, you can see they increase by 1, 2, 3, 4 with each step. So the value of ? is 88.
Number so far: 8 8 _ _
Blue numbers : 03 > ? > 19 > 27 > 35
In the numbers above, they increase steadily by 8. So the value of ? is 11.
Number so far: 8 8 1 1
At first I thought 8811 was the answer, but it wasn't. The answer was the city name corresponding to 8811. So the final answer is determined by the number found first, 5389, and the city name corresponding to 8811 obtained by solving the coded message — "Buffalo".
Final passcode: ( 5389 + Buffalo ) -> differs per person
Enter each of the above final answers and an access-granted prompt appears.
At first I thought only 6 cities were shown, but you could scroll down.. heh
Enter everything correctly and the "Access Granted" message appears.
